GRADING TEACHERS

GRADING TEACHERS

I know taking up this topic for the school website may not be a good idea but still here it goes....Everyone knows that students grade their teachers mostly on the basis of amount of free periods given by that teachers... Apart from that teachers are graded to be really nice if they teach well as well as give free time, and they are the worst if they scold you or if they be strict with you even a little bit. Now what if the school board allowed the students to grade their teachers! Now here comes the argument_ some would say such grading should be allowed and others would oppose this. Now what if they allowed students to grade their teachers so that teachers could see their progress as educators? But, this can be misleading as well ‘cause students can give wrong feedback just on the useless basis we talked of earlier. Students have the best firsthand feedback on how teachers are doing and if they are making high school an uncomfortable, inappropriate, or overly difficult experience. Every student has got that teacher whom they just absolutely hate. The one who 'can’t teach' the one who should have retired years ago, who can’t control a class, or who is just plain jerk. It seems like they’re not going anywhere anytime soon for they don’t allow students to be as productive as they are capable of. The ‘partial’ teachers who have an outlook set in their mind that this student is good and this one capable of doing nothing; I’ve seen and met teachers who are so partial, some are just like you cannot do this or that but there is a different league too, the teachers you can talk to and discuss with them topics related to studies as well as other things; they are just so supportive! I personally think that there should be this kind of system, but after a particular standard, may be 12th when a student is mature enough to know what’s wrong and what’s right. Now you might be thinking why and on what basis do I take this side of the debate, well, mainly because I want the education sector to be transparent and honest, not infested with the kind of politics where a teacher is brutal_ if a student doesn’t come to my tuition classes I’ll show him or her what the result will be. Even even if these teachers don’t do anything they practically pass spiteful statements if one approaches them with a query_ didn’t your tuition teacher teach you this, why are you asking ME, etc. But at the same time we the students are not qualified enough to grade teachers, they went to colleges and studied so long so they are able to grade us . Students! learn and gain Knowledge from teachers with a positive attitude, sensitivity, and enthusiasm. In the perfect world, students would maturely construct fair and sensible evaluation of their teachers in order to ensure their teachers create an environment that fosters learning. However, we do not live in a perfect world, and most students are too immature to objectively execute an evaluation of their teachers. To conclude I would say, teaching is a noble profession that shapes character, caliber, and future of individuals. The biggest honor for a teacher is to be remembered as a good human being with a loving heart_ and that makes a great teacher… Vidhi Jangid XII - D
