'Punjab -- the land of five rivers, where valor meets devotion, where every smile tells a story of warmth, and where the spirit of India beats the strongest.'
Well, our students got a chance to witness, experience and live among these stories of warmth and devotion as St. Anne's Sr. Sec. School organized a four day Educational trip to Amritsar from 22nd October '25 to 25th October '25 for the students of classes V to VIII. This trip was both informative and inspiring, giving our students a deeper understanding of India's glorious history and spiritual essence.
The journey began on 22nd Oct. early in the morning, filled with excitement and curiosity. Upon reaching Amritsar, the city's vibrant energy and welcoming people immediately won our hearts. Our first destination was the Jallianwala Bagh, a place of immense historical significance. As we entered through its narrow gateway, the air seemed to whisper the stories of the brave souls who sacrificed their lives during the 1919 massacre. The sight of the bullet marks and the martyrs’ well stirred strong emotions among students and teachers alike. Students gained a firsthand understanding of the sacrifices that shaped India’s struggle for independence and paid homage to those who laid down their lives for India’s freedom.
The next destination was the Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib), a beacon of peace, faith, and equality. The serene beauty of the golden shrine reflected in the holy Sarovar created an atmosphere of spiritual calm. Students sat quietly, listening to the melodious kirtan that echoed across the temple grounds. The rhythmic chanting and serene surroundings created an atmosphere of tranquility and devotion, offering a rare moment of stillness in our busy lives. Students were deeply moved by the sight of hundreds of devotees selflessly serving and dining together, symbolizing the spirit of equality and compassion that defines Sikhism. It was indeed a meaningful lesson in humility and service. The harmony and discipline observed within the temple premises left a lasting impression on our students.
Following this, we visited the Gobindgarh Fort, a historic landmark that beautifully showcases Punjab’s glorious past. Once under the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the fort now functions as a living museum. Students explored the Toshakhana (treasury) housing replicas of the Kohinoor diamond and royal weaponry. The Sher-e-Punjab 7D show offered an engaging portrayal of the Maharaja’s life and achievements, while the Spirit of Punjab cultural performance energized the atmosphere with traditional bhangra, gidda, and folk music. The museum galleries, artefacts, and evening light-and-sound show brought history alive in a truly immersive way.
The following morning was spent at Sadda Pind, a beautifully recreated Punjabi village that provided students with a glimpse into rural life and traditional crafts. The students enthusiastically took part in folk games, watched artisans at work, and relished authentic Punjabi dishes. It was both educational and entertaining—a celebration of Punjab’s colorful culture.
No journey to Amritsar is complete without witnessing 'the Beating Retreat Ceremony' at the Wagah Border. The entire atmosphere was electrifying and charged with patriotic spirit. As the soldiers marched in perfect synchronization and the national flag fluttered proudly, our students were visibly moved. The chants of “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai” echoed through the air, reminding us all of our shared pride and unity as Indians. When the Indian flag was lowered with respect and grace, every student stood tall, their hearts swelling with pride. It was a moment that truly captured the spirit of India—strong, united, and deeply patriotic.
The day concluded on a high note with an enthusiastic and energetic DJ night that filled the atmosphere with music, laughter, and joy. The students danced their hearts out, showcasing their excitement and togetherness after a fun-filled day. The vibrant beats, colorful lights, and cheerful mood created unforgettable memories for everyone. It was a perfect ending to a memorable day, leaving the children refreshed, delighted, and brimming with happiness.
Needless to mention that our students also savored and enjoyed the finger-licking food and heartfelt hospitality of Punjab. From buttery Amritsari kulchas and chole to creamy lassi and fresh sarson da saag with makki di roti, every meal was a feast for the senses. The students loved the warmth with which every dish was served and were touched by the generosity of the people. Each bite told a story of love, tradition, and pride in Punjabi culture. The food, much like the people, was rich, vibrant, and full of heart.
In all, the educational trip to Amritsar was a perfect blend of learning, culture, and emotion. It enabled students to witness history, experience spirituality, and appreciate the values of courage, service, and unity that define Punjab.
The journey not only enriched our students' knowledge but also instilled in them a deeper sense of national pride and respect for India’s heritage. The experience will remain etched in their memories as a reminder that education extends far beyond the classroom—it lives in the places we visit, the people we meet, and the lessons we carry in our hearts.
